Description
This workshop offers focused training in a traditional Kenjutsu katana system, covering fundamental handling, posture, movement, and applied technique. Participants study proper grips, elemental kamae (postures), and the nine primary directions of attack to build a strong technical foundation.
Training progresses into combination cuts and thrusts, integrated footwork, and a variety of classical cutting and thrusting methods. Emphasis is placed on balance, timing, distance, and efficient body mechanics.
A key component of the workshop is katana parrying (ukenagashi), taught through a structured series using both standard and reverse grips. Each parry combines body movement, defensive redirection, and decisive counterattacks.
The workshop concludes with partnered two-person sword forms (mukei no kurai), allowing students to apply techniques in controlled, flowing exchanges.
Suitable for practitioners seeking a deeper understanding of classical Japanese swordsmanship.
